The idea
Modern nationalism asks who truly belongs. Antisemitic nationalism answers by casting Jews as a people within the people, loyal to something foreign or hidden.
The recurring move
Jews are blamed for weakening national unity through cosmopolitanism, finance, migration, revolution, or minority rights.
Greece · The accusation of disloyalty
In 1931, accusations about Jewish disloyalty circulated in Salonika. Nationalist rhetoric portrayed a minority as an internal threat. Such stories did not simply criticize a named person’s conduct. They asked an audience to treat Jewish neighbours as collectively suspect.
