Racist terrorism · Worshippers are blamed for immigration

The Pittsburgh attacker turned a conspiracy about demographic change into murder.

The Tree of Life attack

On 27 October 2018, a gunman attacked people gathered for Sabbath worship at the Tree of Life synagogue building in Pittsburgh. Eleven people were killed. They were targeted because they were Jewish, not because of any individual act that could justify violence.

A replacement conspiracy

The attacker’s antisemitic beliefs connected Jews to immigration and an imagined threat to white people. The claim made a local religious community stand for a supposed demographic plot. It adapted older hidden-control accusations to contemporary arguments over borders and race.

The court identifies the crime

In 2023, a federal jury convicted the attacker on charges arising from the killings and their antisemitic motivation. The record connects ideology, preparation and action in a specific case. It does not imply that all immigration debate leads to violence; the essential mechanism was racial conspiracy and anti-Jewish targeting.
